Joe Perkins
Senior Pastor

  1. Year I came on staff at FBCMC: August of 1994

  2. One thing I wish everyone would understand: Following Jesus Christ is the most exciting, fulfilling, exhilarating way to live.

  3. A favorite ministry memory:  My favorite ministry times have been when I am with a team of people who are all lifting together on a project.  Mission trip teams I have been a part of would be the most memorable.  I have fantastic memories of our different experiences.

  4. Hobbies:  I enjoy reading and peddling the exercise bike.  Getting my motorcycle back on the road is an exciting new development for me too!

  5. Pet peeves:  My daughters would say it is all the long, blond hairs I find around the house.  I would say I don’t have any!

  6. Books I’ve recently read and recommend:

Church Unique by Will Mancini talks about the uniqueness of each church and how church leaders can help each church fulfill its redemptive potential.

Holy Discontent by Bill Hybels helps any of us identify our frustrations and understand these are passions to pursue for God’s Kingdom.

Common Sense by Glenn Beck because it was full of… well… common sense.

  7. Music I’m currently listening: The Power of Your Name by Lincoln Brewster and Darlene Zcheck, Undone by FFH, Lead Me by Sanctus Real, Hosanna by Hlllsong and the FBC Student worship band

  8. Favorite Movie of All Time: This is an easy one for me:  Band of Brothers

  9. Favorite Sport: Basketball, especially following Kansas Jayhawk Basketball

  10. Favorite Food: Grilled Cheeseburgers with unlimited amounts of ketchup

  11. Favorite Ice Cream flavor: Now here is a difficult question.  I would say it is a toss up between Bunny Tracks and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

  12. If I weren’t in ministry, (realistically) I would probably be...  involved in the construction business, since that was my background and experience before beginning vocational ministry. Otherwise, if I could pull anything out of thin air to do for a vocation, I would choose fighter pilot for the thrill of flying with all that speed and power.

  13. The last time I laughed really hard was when... we were playing “Would you rather…” with our small group.

  14. If I had one chance to visit anywhere in the world for one month, it would be… Alaska.  The massive wilderness, wild animals, Mt. McKinley, glaciers, and I think they have fighter jets there!

  5. Pet peeves: People who voice opinions without ever thinking about their opinion.

Pastor Troy Taylor
Missionary Pastor

Troy came to serve as youth pastor at First Baptist Church in 2006.  He and his wife Penny have seen two children, Noah and Rowan, born since arriving in Kansas.  Troy likes following most sports and digging into his wife’s creative cooking.  A highlight for Troy would be the eight months he and Penny spent in Ukraine in 2005.
