A place to connect with God and others

Why are you Weeping?

Often in life, we can get crushed by disappointment and heartache. Mary Magdalene had this happen to her. Her whole world came crashing down. All hope had been lost. The one she had built her whole world around was publicly executed. The voices in her head started shouting again...

"YOU ARE SO WORTHLESS."
"NO ONE LOVES YOU...
 OR EVEN LIKES YOU...
ESPECIALLY GOD."
"YOU ARE A FAILURE AT EVERYTHING YOU DO..."

While these thoughts are swirling in her head, thoughts not unlike the ones that can persist in our own mind, Jesus stands in front of her and asks her these two simple questions, "Why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?"

See, Jesus asks her these questions because she was mourning a perceived loss which had not actually taken place, a love she thought had been destroyed but could never be destroyed. Jesus asked her whom she was seeking because He was standing right there.

   - Because I am standing   RIGHT HERE!

   - Because I love you, who you truly are   RIGHT NOW!

   - Because everything you are longing for is perfectly fulfilled IN ME!

Jesus asks us the same questions. Why are you weeping? Do you not know the song you teach to your children from the youngest age? Or have you forgotten one of the basic truths of Scripture?

"Jesus loves me, this I know
for the Bible tells me so."

The God who created the Universe knows you and I by name. He LOVES ME!

And then the second question... "Whom are you seeking?"

Is this not the perfect question? We have all the love and acceptance we could ever dream of in Christ, yet we so often seek these things in other, fallible people. People are imperfect. They let us down. Yet, we continue to ask them to do for us what ONLY Jesus can do.

Let us today, sing that simple children's song, with the most profound truth in it, "Yes Jesus Loves Me.", letting that truth resonate into the core of who we are, so we have an answer to those destructive voices in our heads.
